This course is designed to help participants consider how digital twins of the ocean can engage society and create societal benefits. The course focuses on citizen science as an example of how society members can contribute directly to the development of digital twins of the ocean by helping to collect and analyse relevant data. The course gives a broad introduction to citizen science and directs participants towards a range of further resources, equipping them to incorporate citizen science within their digital twins of the ocean. Several Iliad project case studies illustrate the opportunities and challenges of integrating citizen science data within a digital twin. Participants are also invited and encouraged to partake in a citizen science project as part of the course.
The course is organised around a set of questions, each of which is associated with a topic. Participants are invited to pick and choose between topics and engage with the questions that interest them most, and in the order of their interests.
